ET STARTUP AWARDS 2016- WOMAN AHEAD: PORTEA MEDICAL
The winners of the ET Startup awards are out and we can’t stop but admire and get inspired by their amazing stories. One of the most looked-forward-to category at the awards was the ‘Woman Ahead’ and it is quite flagrant that winner, Meena Ganesh was the most deserved.
Meena Ganesh is the co- founder of Portea Medical, one of the competitors in the category. She has an undergraduate degree in Physics from Madras University and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. She started her career at NIIT, and went on to work at Price Water House Coopers and Microsoft. In 2000, she co-founded Customer Asset, a call centre and BPO company, with funding from Softbank Capital and Newscorp. Customer Asset was acquired by ICICI Bank in 2002, and later re-branded as Firstsource.
After leaving Customer Asset, Meena joined Tesco. As the CEO of its India operations, she set up Tesco’s IT and back office hub in India. She stayed at Tesco for five years.
Ganesh left Tesco to join Tutorvista, an online tutoring company founded by her husband, as a co-promoter. Pearson Education acquired a majority stake (around 76%) in TutorVista in 2009.
In July 2013, Meena and Krishnan Ganesh acquired Portea Medical, a healthcare firm based in New Delhi, after which Meena moved in as the CEO.
Meena Ganesh’s profile boasts of a strong experience of three decades across various industries.
