Introducing #WomanCrush – A New Niche

In India, women have it difficult when it comes to career. Career – oriented women go through a lot of shaming when it comes to making choices between family and career. Since times immemorial gender roles have blindfolded the human race but there are certain strong women and men who have looked beyond it. And the history is the witness – we have grown out of women working at home to top most CEOs who are women.

Now that the society’s perspectives have changed about working women, there is still a huge stigma attached to women starting out on their own. The first question that comes to the mind of the family is about her marriage, isn’t that pretty sad? Even most of the educated people have a similar thought process which hinders the growth of the deserving person.

But there are women who have risen above all the setbacks and kicked the gender roles and stereotypes on their butts and succeeded like none. Combating immense resistance, great women like Indra Nooyi (CEO, Pepsico), Meena Bindra (Founder and CEO, BIBA) and Nina Lekhi (Founder and CEO, Baggit) have paved their way towards the pinnacle of success in the male – dominated entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The government of India also encourages women entrepreneurship. Federation of Indian Women Entrepreneurs (FIWE) is a huge determinant of the same. FIWE has a very simple outlook- ‘Entrepreneur Guiding Entrepreneur’ through voluntary efforts of successful women entrepreneurs adopting professional tools of counseling, training, hand holding, mentoring and peer-group support. This is a tremendously potent idea that needs to be out there.

“If people are doubting how far you can go, go so far that you can’t hear them anymore.”
