Start up of the week – Travelyaari – Reshaping Bus Rides!
The bus travel industry in India has not always been the best but we are working towards making it better. With the introduction of online booking, there has been a significant improvement in convenience. However, it still was not the case with booking bus rides.
Aurvind Lama, an ex IIIT Allahabad student, realised this gap. He got together with two of his friends, Partha Sinha and Prateek Nigam, and they took it upon themselves to change bus ticket booking in India!
Their tagline puts it straight – Your friend for the road. He took up a task that seemed very necessary but did not exist. Travelyaari simply allows you to select the best possible seat option available during the time of your bus ticket booking. Yet it has revolutionized the Indian bus industry.
The company which started in 2007 is currently the largest real time ticket booking platform with head offices in Ahmedabad and Bangalore. They have branches in all major states of India.
It has previously raised a series A investment of $3 million. Recently, they managed to raise $7 million in Series B funding led by existing investor Gujarat Venture Finance Limited (GVFL), Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd, (BCCL) and other investors.
Alongside its bus ticketing service, the platform also offers B2B solutions to nearly 2,000 bus operators through its Bus ERP product called BusCRS. It has even provided technology solutions for state transport corporations like Punjab Roadways and PRTC.
Travelyaari still intends to broaden their horizons. They are currently working on building an ecosystem around road travel by including pickup and drop services, food, and lodging to its platform offerings.
This start-up is a great example of how a simple problem was solved by a simple solution that led to many more advancements! All it took was a little thought and deep dedication.
